VeinGogh Paints A Better Picture Of Ugly Facial Spider Veins

Spider veins are just one of many unfortunate realities of aging. These little networks of red, blue, or purple veins are visible on the surface of the legs and on the cheeks, chin, and nose. They can be due to simple aging, genetics, and your occupation.

On the legs, Dr. Heeringa typically uses sclerotherapy to remove spider veins. But to avoid injections on the face, we use a microburst of heat delivered through a very fine probe on facial spider veins. The treatment is called VeinGogh. This newer treatment option uses microburst technology to eliminate small spider veins up to 0.3 mm.

What Is VeinGogh?

VeinGogh uses a new process known as the Ohmic Thermolysis System to treat spider veins, clinically called telangiectasia. The system uses a tiny fiber that delivers heat energy into the vein, causing it to collapse. VeinGogh allows Dr. Heeringa to be very precise with the treatment, dramatically lowering the risk of heat damage to surrounding tissue and vessels.

How Does A VeinGogh Procedure Work?

Dr. Heeringa performs VeinGogh treatments in both our Traverse City and Cadillac locations. Prior to the treatment, we apply topical numbing cream to keep you comfortable. With VeinGogh, a small stylus, similar to a pencil, contains the fiber that is inserted into the targeted vein. Once the fiber is in the vein, the system delivers a microburst of controlled heat energy into the vein. This heat damages the vein walls, making them contract and close off. The vein is now collapsed, and the body begins the process of absorbing the unused vein.

How Long Does A VeinGogh Session Last?

The VeinGogh treatment takes just a few minutes for a single telangiectasia cluster on your face. The total length of your session depends on the number of facial spider veins being treated. Usually sessions take less than 30 minutes, although it takes 20 minutes for the numbing cream to fully take effect.

Is There Recovery?

There is no downtime with VeinGogh. You may have some mild redness around the treatment sites, but this generally disappears within a few hours after treatment.

Does VeinGogh Treatment Hurt?

We topically numb the area before treatment. From there, patients equate the feeling of a VeinGogh treatment as similar to a hair being removed.
